The very best of Dutch dance
The Nederlandse Dansdagen presents the most significant Dutch dance productions seen in the past season and thereby provides a representative and convenient overview of new dance developments. Equally important, the event runs the whole gamut of dance – from classical ballet to urban dance – and is living testimony to the richness and diversity of Dutch dance. Presenting fifteen different choreographies including no fewer than three premières, the last edition of the Nederlandse Dansdagen (Dutch Dance Festival) treated the audience to a particularly broad spectrum of Dutch dance. With a deep sense of gratification, the organizers are looking back at this event, held on October 9, 10 and 11, 2009. All the dancers at the Nederlandse Dansdagen performed to enthusiastic capacity crowds. Clearly, Dutch dance – widely recognized as having been at the forefront of innovation and quality for decades now – is continuing to be in robust health. The festival’s fringe programming, which included public debates and demonstrations, was well attended. The fringe events provided fresh perspectives and valuable insights to professionals and spectators alike. Club Guy & Roni’s impressive Pinball and Grace brought the 12th Nederlandse Dansdagen to a successful close, offering a tantalizing taste of things to come in the next dance season. NPS Televisie – a Dutch public broadcaster with a keen interest in culture – aired an extensive TV program about the festival, focusing on the productions created and staged by Ann Van den Broek and Nanine Linning. The program also covered the Gala van de Nederlandse Dans (Dutch Dance Gala); including the presentation of the Swan dance awards, as well as the world première of Limbo, mounted by the Netherlands Dance Theatre. By tradition, the 13th edition of the Nederlandse Dansdagen will take place in the first weekend of October. So you may want to mark these dates in your appointment book: October 1, 2 and 3, 2010!
