The dansMuseum
Welcome to the dansMuseum, the new online museum of the Nederlandse Dansdagen and the only museum devoted to the support and celebration of Dutch dance.
Designed to inform, innovate and inspire, the mission of the dansMuseum is to preserve and present the Nederlandse Dansdagen archive and to encourage critical engagement with Dutch dance history through its exhibitions, research projects and educational programming.
The idea for the dansMuseum began in 2017 with Movement Matters, 20 Years of the Nederlandse Dansdagen, a retrospective exhibition celebrating two decades of the festival’s achievements and contributions to Dutch dance. Since then, its aim has been to inspire new ways of thinking about the history of Dutch dance by focusing on the relation between dance and its changing society.
Our new online museum lays the foundation for future ambitions; wherein we continue to contribute, together with the dance community, to an ongoing and dynamic discourse on Dutch dance.
In the dansMuseum you can access the Nederlandse Dansdagen archive, past dansMuseum exhibitions, as well as three new initiatives; re:Search, a Reading Room, and our Workshop. All these components are meant to promote knowledge sharing and participation and celebrate the diversity of Dutch dance.
At the same time, the dansMuseum is a trubute to all participants, stakeholders and employees who, throughout the years, and with great dedication and inspiration, have contributed to the richness and versatility of dance in the Netherlands.
