The numerous encounters between creators, dancers, participants, and spectators that took place during the Dutch Dance Festival in 2024 were perhaps more important than ever. In 2024, we lived in a time of tremendous change, including within the Dutch dance world. The future for many in the sector was uncertain. When the festival kicked off, we knew who would be the winner or loser in the coming years. Regardless of the euphoria or pain felt, we nevertheless invited everyone to reflect on what dance is all about.

After all, the strength and resilience of our sector lies precisely in the essence of dance—the moving body, the freedom of expression, and the interaction between performer and audience. The promise of discovering new paths and forms of expression. The Dance Festival offered the perfect opportunity to discuss this with each other and embark on this adventure together.
