During a dazzling program in the Danstent on Saturday afternoon, you'll see the very best of urban arts.
The Open Your Mind Top 12 is an experimental performance competition. This special edition of the international Open Your Mind franchise is tailor-made for fans of improvisational dance. All styles are welcome in the Danstent's 360-degree arena where twelve dancers will compete against each other for the grand prize of €1,000! Six dancers will be invited by the organization and six will be qualified on the day before the eyes of the expert jury.
This program is a collaboration of the Nederlandse Dansdagen, Stichting Sample Culture and The Notorious IBE.
OYM's origins lie in the hip-hop battle scene where the DJ sets the music and the judges pick the best dancers each round. Jury and audience sit in the Danstent 360-degrees around the stage, close to the dancers' skin, requiring each improviser to consider all directions. The competition begins with the 12 dancers after which the number is halved each round, until the eventual finale between the top two dancers. The winner takes it all, namely the prestigious OYMT12 €1000 prize!
