Reading: Dancing as Liberation

People affected by a fatal or chronic illness experience their very existence shaken. A biographical disruption occurs. Identity narrows to the role of patient, the body becomes an enemy, and stigma hangs like a heavy burden. Dancing in the presence of others in the same situation is both connecting and liberating. By expressing oneself, breaking free, and freely embracing a new identity, a process of transformation is initiated.
