Een compilatie van dansfilms die zich gepassioneerd uitspreken over misstanden in de wereld.
Tijdens de Nederlandse Dansdagen vindt in het voormalige Stercollege op de Grote Gracht een grote tentoonstelling plaats met 24 video-installaties rond de thema’s protest en publieke actie, die in een disruptieve en gepolariseerde samenleving een nieuwe actualiteit hebben gekregen. Het initiatief van de Maastrichtse organisatie ViewMaster Projects vestigt de aandacht op de verschillende manieren waarop kunstenaars de emotie en energie naar een ander platform vertalen en nieuwe betekenislagen toevoegen aan publieke actie.
Deze artistieke verwerking is ook zichtbaar in een groeiend aantal dansfilms, waarin protest naar het lichaam en beweging wordt vertaald. De Nederlandse Dansdagen en Cinedans presenteren een programma met sprekende voorbeelden van de diversiteit waarmee dit gebeurt. Met een inleiding door Bart van den Boom van ViewMaster Projects, curator van de tentoonstelling Protest!

Guided by a mysterious entity, a young Black woman sets out on a quest for intimacy in a world where the lines between the personal and the political, the individual and the collective, the past and the present, are increasingly blurred. This afro-surrealistic reverie poetically reimagines contemporary conceptions of selfhood and community, while questioning the historically and culturally imposed views on the intimate lives of Black people in the diaspora.

In this cinematic adaptation of Severs’ stage performance Coerced & Freely Given ('24), three performers train together to endure the world’s violences and reclaim space for vulnerability and anger through care and solidarity. Known for her unique blend of choreography and martial arts, Severs delves into the body’s resilience, vulnerability, and ability to resist societal and political pressures.

Iranian Maedeh Hojabri (17) dances without a headscarf in her living room and posts videos of it on Instagram. The police intervene and she is arrested. Dancing, especially without a headscarf, is considered subversive behavior in Iran. When journalist Masih Alinejad published Maedeh's story and posted a video of herself dancing in a park, expressions of solidarity poured in from all sides. Countless women and men rallied under the banner #BeraghsToBeraghsim (let's dance) and posted videos of themselves dancing, often bareheaded. Maedeh's story became international news.
