About Anne
Anne Suurendonk (Amsterdam, 1988) is a choreographer, dancer and teacher. She studied dance at the Academie for Theater and Dance at the Amsterdam School of the Arts. After this, she discovered her passion for choreography and throughout the years she develops her unique, contemporary movement language, which is very important in her work, it’s her signature. She makes her first steps as a choreographer by doing residencies at Dansmakers Amsterdam and Over het IJ Festival a.o. As a teacher and choreographer she is active on several bachelor dance educations in the Netherlands, where she annually makes pieces with and for students. As an extension of this, she does several projects as a creator, enters into several collaborations at DOX, just completed a residency at Korzo, and was working at Danstheater AYA as house choreographer. Here she created her performances Bloedband, Liefde en dan, and High, among others.
''People and what makes human beings, is what fascinates me endlessly. My work always deals with themes that every human being faces. I zoom in on life, on the relationships we enter into. It is always about emotions. I look for how to shape the inner world. The highs and lows. People often want only the splendor, I think out of fear. But I believe very much in the power of vulnerability and I think we would get much further together if we would be more open about our experiences and dare to share. That brings us closer together. This is where I always start from, as a human being and as a maker.'' - Anne Suurendonk
