Sam Corver

Sam Corver is nominated for the Jonge Zwaan meest indrukwekkende jeugddansprestatie 2025 for his role in LOEV (8+) (Ryan Djojokarso/ Danstheater AYA In co-production with Maat Saxophone Quartet).

Jury about the nomination

''Sam Corver is a stable and agile partner in Loev, interacting with his fellow dancers. He is a dancer who acts as a rock and impresses with his presence throughout the entire performance. Choreographer Ryan Djojokarso chooses to portray the theme of love in a caricatured way through four dancers and four musicians who are beautifully integrated into the performance, exaggerating emotions. It is striking that Corver carries the performance. You see him above the material, allowing him to be completely open to what is happening in the moment. He uses his acrobatic dance style to express both vulnerability and strength.''

About Sam Corver

Sam Corver (1996) began dancing out of a fascination with breakdancing. What started as a hobby grew into an artistic exploration of styles such as popping, contemporary and modern dance. After completing his bachelor's degree in Modern Theatre Dance at the Academy of Theatre and Dance in Amsterdam, he gained experience with various companies, including Club Guy & Roni and Het Houten Huis. He has been affiliated with Danstheater AYA since 2023.

Sam is known for his sincere way of working. In youth theatre, this allows him to connect with young audiences: their unfiltered reactions and open minds are a breath of fresh air and a source of inspiration for him. In his movement, he seeks a delicate balance between expression, impulsiveness, power and subtlety.

In Danstheater AYA's production Loev, choreographed by Ryan Djojokarso, he plays a confrontational role that raises questions about love, behaviour and boundaries. He considers the nomination for his role in Loev an honour for the entire team: ‘This recognition is not only for me, but also for and by the people with whom I share the stage. Together we make this production what it is.’

“He uses his acrobatic dance style to express both vulnerability and strength.”
