Dance company OFFprojects, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and British multi-instrumentalist Shabaka Hutchings join forces in Storm: an explosive encounter between contemporary dance and jazz.

Choreographer Amos Ben-Tal and Hutchings draw inspiration from minimalism and South Ugandan rhythms. Because the dancers and musicians improvise within fixed structures, every evening is unique. As the energetic finale to the Dutch Dance Days, Storm builds a perfect bridge to JekerJazz, which continues the Maastricht tradition the following day. About this unique collaboration

Ever since the birth of jazz, the genre has been inextricably linked to dance. It was the dance music of the early 20th century: lively, rhythmic and designed to get people moving. With Storm, OFFprojects, the Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw and Shabaka Hutchings draw on this original energy and the natural connection between the disciplines, translating them into a contemporary and artistic form. About OFFprojects & Het Jazz Orchestra of the Concertgebouw & Shabaka Hutchings

OFFprojects is a dance company based in The Hague, comprising former dancers from renowned companies such as NDT, Batsheva and the Hofesh Shechter Company. Under the direction of choreographer and musician Amos Ben-Tal, OFFprojects has created a variety of performances in which live composition is integrated in an innovative and profound way. The collective is known for its out-of-the-box approach to dance, breathtaking dancers and exciting interdisciplinary collaborations, in which they explore the boundaries of interdisciplinarity and push the limits of improvisation. Interval was nominated for the prestigious Zwaan Award for most impressive dance production, and PART was named by the press as one of the best performances of 2022.
