Become a volunteer at the dansMuseum!

We are looking for a volunteer who can support the development of the digital archive.

The tasks

As a volunteer for the digital archive of Nederlandse Dansdagen, you will work on the dansMuseum: the online environment of Nederlandse Dansdagen where the history of the festival is exhibited. The dansMuseum has recently gone online and is still under development. In the coming period, we want to breathe more life into the platform, and we need your help to do so. Would you like to discover which dancers, choreographers, and dance performances have shaped Dutch dance over the years? Would you enjoy digging through the archives of the festival, which has been around since 1998? Does the idea of contributing to the development of the dansMuseum excite you? Then we are looking for you!

What will you be doing?

• You will assist our archive manager in filling and enriching the dance museum.

• You will process information from previous festival editions in our online collection management system.

• You will import and organize visual material and data and add descriptions where necessary.

• You will collect highlights from the archive and translate them to the danceMuseum website.

• You will be the first to test new features of the danceMuseum, explain your experience, and make suggestions for improvement where possible.

Who are we looking for?

• You have a passion for dance, art, culture, and/or archiving. 

• You can read Dutch and English and have basic writing skills (the archive is bilingual). 

• You enjoy bringing structure to things.  

• You don't mind performing repetitive tasks. 

• You are comfortable working in digital environments. 

• Your enthusiasm is more important than your existing skills. 

• You are available one day a week. 

• Period: Starting in January 2026, preferably for one year.

What we offer..

You will be part of the Nederlandse Dansdagen festival team. There will be opportunities to share ideas about the dansMuseum experience. You will learn a lot about dance in the Netherlands through the years and about how we, as a festival, make our heritage accessible. You will also get a unique insight into the back end of the dansMuseum website and learn how to work with it. You are welcome to work at our office in the center of Maastricht, where you can also consult the archive material. A volunteer allowance is available.

About Nederlandse Dansdagen 

The Nederlandse Dansdagen foundation is an organization that annually focuses on the heritage, current events, and future of Dutch dance. Since 1998, we have organized the Nederlandse Dansdagen Festival every October, showcasing the best of Dutch dance at various locations in Maastricht. Since 2020, we have been presenting Dutch dance live in Maastricht and online from Maastricht. From October 3 to 9, 2025, we will celebrate our 28th edition, showcasing dance both online and live.  

We award the most prestigious dance prizes in the Netherlands and program a large number of premieres, must-see performances, and innovative in-house productions by both emerging choreographers and established dance companies. From classical ballet to urban dance, for young and old, dance enthusiasts and dance professionals.
