Reading: The Impact of Dance
Reading by Prof. Dr. Janine Stubbe
During this presentation, Prof. Dr. Janine Stubbe will explore the many positive effects of dance on physical and mental health. A growing body of research shows that dance not only contributes to promoting well-being, but also plays an important role in improving health. People who actively participate in the arts, such as dance, experience lower stress levels, fewer symptoms of anxiety and depression, and a higher quality of life. Dance also offers a powerful form of self-expression, which is particularly valuable for people who have difficulty expressing their emotions verbally. In addition, dance promotes social connectedness and strengthens the resilience of communities.
The presentation will conclude with a short dance performance by Marika Meoli and Joost Vrouenraets, danced by Marika Meoli and Patrizio Bucci. This performance, The Embrace, is particularly relevant to the topic, as it reflects the power of dance as a means of emotional and physical connection, especially in times when physical contact and hugs were restricted, such as during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a beautiful way to show how dance not only promotes our physical well-being, but can also have a deeper, emotional impact.
