Look back: State of Dutch Dance
De Nederlandse Dansdagen values the meeting with and between dance professionals, who visit the festival in large numbers every year. The festival is a time to enjoy together all the beauty that Dutch dance has to offer. At the same time, the festival wants to contribute to the further development of the special dance landscape in our country.

In order to determine where you want to go, you need to know where you stand. An important pillar in the professional program is therefore The State of Dutch Dance, which is recited each year by a person with a leading role within the Dutch Dance world. This year, the State of Dutch Dance will be spoken by choreographer, theater producer and artistic director of Theater Rotterdam, Alida Dors.
This year, Alida Dors will recite both the State of the Theater (Sept. 1, during the Dutch Theater Festival) and the State of Dutch Dance (Sept. 30, during de Nederlandse Dansdagen). She is the first person in history to chair both States, bringing the two art disciplines of theater and dance closer together.
Alida Dors: "That both festivals are giving me this invitation is a nice challenge. They consciously made this choice together, and I am free in form and text to do what I think best suits my message. With that, they convinced me. I pick up the mic, because...my silence will not protect me...you...or us!"
In 2021, it was the turn of none other than Conny Janssen to pronounce the state.
Where to begin. Much is going on in the world near and far.
Much has been said, shouted and written about the bizarre period that rocked the world and arrived in the Netherlands last March.
We cannot ignore it.
