The Dutch National Ballet presents a Hans van Manen Workshop

Hans van Manen left behind an impressive body of work comprising more than one hundred and fifty creations, performed by companies all over the world.

His work is characterised by its clarity, musicality and great expressiveness. With a simple hand gesture, a glance or an encounter between two dancers, he often managed to convey more than words could ever express.

In this workshop, led by Florianne Dobrowolski, you’ll be introduced to Hans van Manen’s style in an accessible way. We’ll work with music from various ballets and explore movement, timing, space and contact. Inspired by his approach, participants will create short duets and learn a choreography together.

The workshop is open to anyone aged 10 and over. No dance experience is necessary: curiosity and a love of movement are all you need.

After completing her Bachelor’s degree in Dance Teaching and her Master’s degree in Arts Education at Codarts, Rotterdam, Florianne Dobrowolski (1981) worked as a performing dancer with, amongst others, the musical theatre company Zenga and Cliniclowns Theatre Shows. As a dance teacher, she is affiliated with De VAK Delft, SKVR Rotterdam, Projects Unlimited and the education department of the Dutch National Opera and Ballet. She takes great pleasure in teaching and creating choreographies in and for primary and secondary schools. Her passion lies in classical ballet, music and jazz dance, which she grew up with as a child, having two musicians as parents.
