Oku Dance | Claire Hermans & Tijmen Teunissen | Faizah Grootens
De Kracht van Kwetsbaarheid

Three creators, three distinct worlds, one shared movement: reclaiming space. In this performance, the body becomes a place of resistance, memory and imagination. The choreographers challenge existing structures and open up new perspectives on femininity, identity, complexity and decolonisation. Their work demonstrates how dance can provoke, liberate and redefine who is allowed to be seen.

Even the Edges – Claire Hermans & Tijmen Teunissen

Even the Edges is an intimate, physical and visual performance about love in all its rawness and in all its facets, including the complete surrender to it. In a sensory interplay of attraction and exploration, Claire Hermans & Tijmen Teunissen delve into something that lies deep within every human being: the longing for closeness. This duet demonstrates the courage required to make oneself vulnerable. Theaterkrant: “… what a wonderfully pure form a dance duet can be for exploring human relationships.”

Tender Resistance – Faizah Grootens

In Tender Resistance, Faizah Grootens, winner of the 2023 Leo Spreksel Award, explores vulnerability as an alternative form of resistance. How do you maintain gentleness in your body in a world that is becoming increasingly harsh? How do you continue to open yourself up to others, even when you disagree with one another? A notable detail: both Evelien Jansen and Amber Veltman, who engage in a dialogue on these topical and urgent questions in this duet, were nominated last year for a Zwaan Award for the most impressive dance performance.

Shokunin | - Oku Dance

Aya Misaki, originally from Japan, has been living and working in the Netherlands for many years. Together with her compatriot Kai Tomioka, she is developing the Shokunin I series (Japanese for ‘craftsman’). In this series, Aya translates the Japanese dedication to craftsmanship, precision, humility and care into an almost meditative dialogue between body, material and space. Inspired by practices such as nanba walking, Zen and the Mono-ha movement, a process of transformation unfolds, in which not only the material, but also the artist and the viewer are invited to stillness, reflection and personal development.
