Nederlandse Dansdagen 2007

10 years under its belt and many years to go. The festival is as old as the bright-eyed 10-year-old dancers shown in the brochure and on the posters. These kids are self-assured, have a mind of their own and aim to become the very best. Those are the qualities that we would like to ascribe to our festival and, more broadly speaking, the Dutch dance world.

The term Dutch dance is a tricky one. Of course, it means dance coming from the Netherlands. But what else does it entail? A growing number of dance artists, programmers, producers and spectators in the Netherlands regard contemporary dance as a social activity centred around a shared belief in contemporary dance. The program laid on at the 10th edition of the Nederlandse Dansdagen serves to underline the enormous diversity and international orientation of Dutch dance in the year 2007. Nederlandse Dansdagen showcases performances by both big names and new talent. It also turns the spotlight on many different perspectives on dance. Both connoisseurs and first-time visitors come together and descend on the festival venues in Maastricht. In addition, Dutch and foreign theatre programmers carefully examine what is on offer to pick the best. Amateurs and professionals dance to their heart’s content.
